Minu 10 lemmiktsitaati Karl Lagerfeldilt

Eile oli ütlemata kurb päev kõigile, kellele mood vähekenegi korda läheb. Olin isegi üllatunud, kui väga läks mulle korda 85-aastase Karl Lagerfeldi lahkumine. Ma ei olnud ju temaga eales kohtunud, temaga suhelnud, teda isegi kaugusest silmanud. Ning tegelikult ainuüksi sellest võibki välja lugeda, milline mõju sellel moekeisril oli, meile kõigile.

Et aga kurbadest nootidest natukene välja tulla ning tuua helgust sellesse aega, ning kindlasti jääda Lagerfeldi meenutama ainult positiivsetes nootides, võtsin taas kord ette oma vana mustvalge lemmiku, raamatu „The world according to Karl” – kogumiku tema meeleolukamatest tsitaatidest, ütlemistest, arvamistest. Mõtlesin, et oleks sobilik neid jagada siingi, et mälestust sellest ikoonilisest mehest jääks saatma muhe naeratus.

Aitäh Sulle, Karl!

„When I was very young, at the beginning my business was to work more than the others to show them their pointlessness.”

„I remember a designer who said her dresses were worn only by intelligent women. Naturally she went bankrupt.”

„Every era gets the fashion it deserves.”

„When you’re young you are always a bit of an idiot. What saves us is that we realize it later.”

„My work is not to make the Chanel suit survive, but to make sure it lives.”

„A touch of humour and a bit of disrespect: that’s what a legend needs to survive.”

„My greatest luxury is not to have to justify myself to anyone.”

„I’m always busy. You know, the more I do, the more ideas I have – that’s the funny thing. The brain is a muscle, and I’m a kind of body-builder.”

„I cannot live without books. The room is dead if there are no books.”

Ning muidugi ei saanud Karl üle ega ümber dressipükstest:

„Jogging pants are a sign of defeat. You’ve lost control of your life, so you go out in jogging pants.”
